Lansing’s Creative Community: Dani Twigs – Hula Hoop & Singer extraordinaire!

Who are you?

My name is Danielle (aka Dani Twigs). I am a former flight attendant, world traveler, MSU grad and currently a landscaper/horticulture enthusiast.

When I’m not making music or hula hooping, I’m connecting with nature. I spend much of my time exploring the outdoors, going for long walks, bike riding, hammocking, camping and taking care of plants.

I also love to practice yoga, exercise, dance and nourish my body with lots of plant-based foods! Although I have many practices to improve on, my next big adventure will be learning how to mix music as a DJ.

What’s your medium?

Music (singing, guitar, music mixing) and the flow arts (hula hoop)

Do you remember the moment you wanted to make art?

I’ve had a passion for singing ever since I could talk. Music has always been a huge part of my life so there was never an initial ‘moment’– I’ve always wanted to make music.

As far as hula hooping goes, I’ve been [traditional] waist hooping for ten + years. It wasn’t until a year and a half ago that I felt the desire to be more expressive with the hoop and expand/learn different moves. Much of my inspiration to do so came from friends who are hoopers.

Where do you find inspiration?

Other artists! Music, nature, my own personal struggles and emotions, organic/intuitive movement and dance.
